2012 Catch Up

Yes, I’ve been on a blog hiatus. I can’t promise it’s going to get much better, but for my own sake I need to play a quick little game of catch up. I don’t really know where to start though. I’ve pretty much been behind since I had Ray and that’s been almost a year. CRAZY! So…I’m going to steal my sweet friend Lindsay’s idea and make a post of the top 12 of 2012. Thanks Linds for being so brilliant!

And these are in absolutely no particular order, well except for maybe somewhat chronological…

#12 – Sweet Baby Ray entered our world on April 24, 2012.

04April

The labor happened so quickly. I delivered Ray just over an hour after I got to the hospital. And we were in and out of the hospital in less than 24 hours. It was great! We were anxious to get home and introduce Harper to her new little brother. She was smitten with him from the beginning and has been such a big helper girl.

#11 – My parents came to visit!

MomDadTrip

Since we only see them about once a year, this is always a highlight. It is so fun to spend time with them. They took Harper to the park and were such a great help with her. Harper absolutely loved the constant attention. And this trip they got to meet Ray for the first time. We also blessed Ray on May 20th while they were here. We had so many supportive family and friends come and Ryan did a great job with the blessing! It was a beautiful day.

#10 – We bought a house. And renovated the crap out of it. We thought it would only take a few weeks. But 6 months later we finally moved in. So in 2012, we bought and renovated. In 2013, we moved in. We are so glad to finally be moved in and have so much space. It’s a BEAUTIFUL home and I love everything about it…except for the spiders! I need to do a full post on all of the changes we made (with more updated pictures) but here’s a little glimpse of it.

#9 – As mentioned in the previous post, we went to San Diego for my lil bro’s wedding. It wasn’t under the best circumstances but it was great to be with family. We did a lot in just a couple days and were totally exhausted by the time we got home but it was so worth it! We played in the pool, went to the beautiful wedding and reception, went to Old Town San Diego and the Mormon Battalion Historic Site, went to the beach, and played at the hotel. Here’s another little picture collage for your viewing pleasure:

#8 – SURPRISE! We discovered we were expecting baby #3. Can I just say WOWZA!?! I mean, I had a 5 month old when I found out. The thought of having 3 kids in 2.5 years was a little much for my postpartum emotions. But I am so excited! Although there’s plenty of AHHH!! moments, I just love my sweet, adorable angel babies and the thought of adding another to the mix is great. They’re going to have so much fun together (and get into so much trouble together!).

Pictures

#7 – We went to the local pumpkin patch which has become an annual favorite family fall activity. We took a little hay ride, walked through the corn maze and picked out some pumpkins. The kids loved it!

IMG_1389-001IMG_1425-001

#6 – Harper turned 2! I can not believe my baby girl is 2. The day of her birthday was kind of crazy so we opened a few gifts, sang happy birthday and ate a giant cupcake. We had a party a few days later with family. Harper requested pizza and pink cake and loved every second of her party!

11November

#5 – Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. And although it rarely changes from one year to the next it is always such a blast! We do Christmas Eve at Grandma Bedke’s house and have homemade asian dinner and then slush and cookies for dessert. It’s pretty much amazing! Christmas morning this year we did Santa presents at home and then did the rest at Ryan’s parent’s house. Harper was the perfect age this year and loved everything about it. Ray on the other hand was way more interested in eating the wrapping paper, but was cute nonetheless. We had the best time just being with family! And of course we were all spoiled rotten.

12December

We also sent my parents the cutest christmas gift ever (yes, I’m a little biased and totally proud of all of the cuteness busting out of it). We put these pictures in a 3-opening vertical frame. Isn’t it adorable?

IMG_1544-001IMG_1559-001IMG_1575-001

#4 – Harper quickly went from being my baby girl to my big helper girl when I had Ray. She stepped into the role perfectly and has been such an angel. Here are a few things she was doing in 2012:

  • Talking, talking, talking – In August she could say quite a few words, but by December she could say just about everything. {Now she’s our little chatterbox and will talk your ear off in complete sentences}
  • She says her prayers by herself with just a little coaching
  • At 20 months (Aug) she loved to: take her temperature, be outside, give hugs & kisses to Ray, give kisses to everyone, watch TV {especially Curious George and Blue’s Clues}, take naps, throw things in the trash, clean up while saying “keen-a, keen-a”, eat jelly beans, pick and eat peas straight out of the garden, play with the kittens
  • She used the potty (and #2 at that) for the first time at 20 months and would sporadically use it the rest of the year when she felt like it. Silly girl!
  • She’s a dancing fool! She LOVES to dance and busts out the best moves ever.

10October

#3 – Ray was the sweetest baby – most of the time. When he was first born he barely cried. But after the first month, he would occasionally go into random screaming fits and could not be soothed. Luckily it wasn’t too often but it did make us all want to go a little crazy! Overall he has been such a happy boy. He has the brightest blue eyes and the most contagious smile. Here are a few Ray facts of 2012:

  • he is TOTAL boy!
  • he is into everything. in fact, i’m pretty sure he purposely gets into things he shouldn’t just to get to you. and he’ll even flash you this look like “i’m not supposed to be doing this, but watch me”. little stinker!
  • loves to play rough. ry play wrestles with him and he thinks it’s hilarious - maybe he’s just immune from Harper mauling him to death since he was a baby.
  • loves food
  • loves Harper and thinks she’s hilarious
  • doing the army crawl since 4 months; crawling by 6 months

12December1

#2 – We grew our first garden!

Our new house came with a beautiful garden which we totally took advantage of even though we weren’t quite living there yet. The previous owner planted tomatoes, peas, asparagus and cantaloupe. Ryan and Harper planted yellow squash, zucchini, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, and beets. There are also grapevines and blackberry bushes on the property. So yummy! We have pear, peach, apple and walnut trees as well – however they didn’t really produce a whole lot last year. But we are expecting a full comeback of the fruit trees this year. Woot woot! And Harper is VERY excited to plant a garden with daddy again this year. She frequently talks about it and can list off all of the vegetables they are planning on planting.

IMG_1250

I learned how to can this year and canned tomato sauce, salsa and pickles. We also froze beets, zucchini, and corn (from Ryan’s parent’s garden). It’s a lot of fun to eat the things that you grew throughout the winter. We’re expecting to do a whole lot more of it this year.

IMG_1430

{Me with all of our beets after we finished putting them up}

#1 – We got a puppy!

Meet Roscoe. He is Ryan’s right hand man, or shall I say – dog. He works with Ryan everyday. And he LOVES being at the ranch and being able to run free, eat/chew whatever he wants and roll in any poop he can find. I mean, isn’t that every dogs dream?

 IMG_1368

He’s also great with the kids. Harper and Roscoe are buds. In fact, Harper loves to hug and kiss Roscoe, although we’ve had to put a halt to the kissing because of the aforementioned rolling in turds. Ray also gets very excited to see Roscoe and will sit and watch him through the back door of the ranch.

IMG_1379

Well, that’s all folks. If you made it to the end – Congratulations! I wish I had a prize to offer you, but I don’t. Maybe getting a tiny glimpse into our lives is prize enough?!?

Until next time {and hopefully that’s not next year}…

a hospital, a wedding, and a very exhausted family

here’s a brief rundown of what our last week has been like:

Tues Aug 14  - head home from the ranch to pack and get ready for our drive to San Diego early the next morning for my bro's wedding. ry starts to feel real sick.

Wed Aug 15 - up all night with ry sick. he passed out while going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. i run into the bathroom to find him lifeless slumped over the tub. pick him up to lay him back and he has blood running down his face. ah! looks like he needs stitches. won't let me take him to the er. in the morning, i make him go. after tests we get word that they THINK he might have appendicitis. no clear cut answers. we could do surgery if we want. after prayerful consideration and alot of stress i decide to go ahead with it and hope/pray it's the right decision. has surgery. it was for sure appendicitis. thank heavens i made the right decision! we spend the night in the hospital.

Thurs Aug 16 - we're supposed to be arriving in San Diego for bro's wedding but ry is so not well. ah! what to do? decide to fly. get last minute tickets for that night (thanks to my parents). get released from hospital, go home to finalize packing and then drive to utah. i have 2 children under 2, a husband who can't lift more than 10lbs and is in alot of pain, 2 carry on pieces, 3 suitcases, and 2 carseats. AH! STRESS! Arrived in San Diego @ 11pm. To bed by 1am.

Fri Aug 17 - Ry sleeps all day. I sleep all morning and then spend time with my fam.

Sat Aug 18 - Wedding Day. Beautiful. HOT.

Sun Aug 19 - Sightseeing. Harper LOVED the beach.

Mon Aug 20 - Flying home day. Arrive at San Diego airport. Right as we pull up to unload Harper pukes ALL OVER herself and her carseat. Luckily bags were not checked yet. Changed her and packed extra clothes in our carry on. Layover in Pheonix. Harper has a squishy diaper that goes right through her clothes. AH! Down to last outfit. Get to SLC. Harper and I get on shuttle to go grab the car and pick up ry, ray and luggage at terminal. Realized I didn't grab her carseat. Buckle her in the back seat and hope we don't get pulled over. Get everyone and everything. Drive home.

Tues Aug 21 - Home and recovering. Ry is exhausted and in pain. I'm exhausted. Kids are exhausted. Trying to unpack and do 100 loads of laundry. UGH! What a week! But so glad I could spend time with my family and be there for my bro's wedding. Ry and the kids were such troopers!

pictures and more details to come.

Happy 4th of July *** last week

Did you do anything fun for the 4th?

We sure did! I dressed my kiddos in festive clothes dropped them off at Grandma’s house and went to our house to work the day away. Pretty sure I spent the day patching walls and sanding. Woot woot!

We celebrated the holiday for real by quitting a couple hours early {we’re talking 8pm} to eat dinner and watch fireworks at Ryan’s parent’s house.

IMG_1042IMG_1048

Waiting for the fireworks to begin:

IMG_1055IMG_1056

 IMG_1061

Shortly after this picture was taken, an ember from the sparkler landed on her foot. She was a little concerned about it and bent down to look at it and then started crying. Grandma whisked her off to the house to look at it. There wasn’t really a mark on her foot, but something did smell like burnt hair. Ryan discovered that she was missing half of her left eyebrow. Harper must have singed it a little while bending down to look at her foot. She wasn’t overly concerned though; she just kept gesturing that she wanted to go back outside for the fireworks. She didn’t want to miss anything!

IMG_1063

This was after the incident. She still wanted a sparkler real bad. So she played with one safely wrapped in a blanket on daddy’s lap.

On Friday night, she started retelling the story of what happened over and over. It’s really funny. I’m going to see if I can video it, but basically she makes firework gestures with her hands saying “psh, psh” then points to her toe. Then she makes firework gestures and noises again and then points to her eyebrow. Then she makes firework gestures and noises again and then starts clapping. You can totally tell what she’s saying: There were fireworks and then my toe was hurt. There were fireworks and my eyebrow burned a little. There were more fireworks and we clapped. And she kept doing this whole routine over and over and over and over. She’s such a funny girl! {And too smart for her own good}

We hope you had an excellent 4th of July and celebrated as awesome as we did!

M.I.A

Missing In Action, that is.

It’s been way too long and I have way too many posts to catch up on. Seriously…WAY. TOO. MANY. We’ve just been really busy.

Busy snuggling {and nursing every 20 minutes} this adorable little guy {who’s not really so little anymore…hence, the nursing every 20 minutes!} who joined us 6 weeks ago {it’s already been 6 weeks?!?!}…

IMG_3816

Busy chasing this sweet, smart and crazy girl around…

IMG_5767

Busy spending time with {and getting way too spoiled by} these awesome parents…

IMG_5322

And busy getting everything ready to move into this beauty in the next couple weeks {a 109 yr old home w/4 beds, 2 baths in over 2000 sq.ft. oh and did I mention it’s on over an acre w/mature fruit trees, a garden, a pasture, a chicken coop and a huge yard. YA BABY!}…

Details to come soon on all of this {and much more}. Soon. Very soon.

still going strong and a wedding

Only 4 more days until my due date and we’re still going strong. Our little guy must be rather cozy in there. But it’s okay with me. I’ve been feeling great and thoroughly enjoying my big round belly!

About a week and a half ago, we went to Salt Lake for Ryan’s brother’s wedding. It was a beautiful day and we were so glad to be a part of it. We are very happy for Blake and his new bride, Sherie. Here are a few pictures from the day {mostly of Harper, of course}:

Looking at the temple with daddy.

Checking out the fountain with daddy.IMG_0624

Harper ran right up to Aunt Sherie and Uncle Blake and then when they put her down she just stood there clapping and smiling and soaking in all of the attention from everyone standing around looking at Blake & Sherie…pretty sure she thought all of the attention was for her. Silly girl!

Taking a walk with Grandma.

And a couple squinty family pictures…

Harper kept wanting to jump off the ledge she was standing on which resulted in this silly picture of her just uncomfortably “hanging” there…haha

Easter 2012 Edition

I’m still here! No baby yet. Woot Woot!

I just took a gander over to this post and holy moly!! Harper has changed so much since last Easter.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend with lots of family and food, as usual.

Friday night my sis and bro-in-law came to visit us. We were very excited because we haven’t seen them since before Christmas. Who knew it would be so hard to get together when you live only 2.5 hours away?!?

Saturday afternoon we headed over to Grandma Bedke’s for the big Saturday Easter celebrations.

Harper was very excited to see her cousin Jaden and ran over to see him {and help him eat his lunch} as soon as we got there.IMG_0540

Vanessa and Joe helped me decorate eggs. Harper wasn’t all that interested this year. {yes….terrible lighting. although they do look like angels :)}

IMG_0544

And while we were decorating eggs, Harper and Jaden were getting in a few hugs…

 IMG_0545IMG_0547

Aunt Addie helped Harper get all decked out for Easter. Very cute!IMG_0550

Aunt Vanessa and Uncle Joe headed back to Rexburg just before the extreme egg hunt. We didn’t want them to leave, but they insisted that they couldn’t just stay and play with us all week. We think their priorities are a lil mixed up! :)

IMG_0552IMG_0554

And then the egg hunt began. Harper LOVED running around picking up eggs and putting them in her basket. She knew exactly what to do. It was so fun watching her get all excited.

IMG_0559

IMG_0566IMG_0568

Showing off the loot in her basket. These aren’t even half of the pictures. It was hard to choose because they were all so cute. She kept making the silliest facial expressions. Harper scored just over $12 and tons of yummy candy to share with mommy and daddy! Thank you Great Grandma Bedke!

April

On Easter morning, Harper woke up {or more accurately stated…was woken up by daddy} to a couple gifts from the Easter Bunny. He brought her a pail and shovel {to collect her rocks in…of course} and some sidewalk chalk. Daddy took her outside for a minute to shovel up some rocks in her pail and she thought it was great. She spent the rest of the morning walking around the house with her pail.

IMG_0587

This was the best picture I could get of Harper in her Easter dress. She was refusing to sit/stand still and look at the camera. I just love her dress. {THANK YOU KRISTEN!!!!}

IMG_0594

And this is what happened when we forced her to sit still and look at the camera. Our poor child! These pictures are priceless...probably some of my favorites, in fact.April1

After church, we went over to Ryan’s parent’s house. While we were preparing dinner, Harper, Daddy, Jaden, Uncle Jesse and Aunt Brooke played outside with Harper’s new chalk. {And Harper may or may not be trying to push Jaden over in the far left picture…poor Jaden!}

April2

And then we devoured a delicious meal of ham, twice baked potatoes, veggies, salad, deviled eggs and rolls {YUMMY!}, in which Harper was practically falling asleep while chewing her food due to the lack of naps. It was pretty hilarious! I wish I would have grabbed my camera…but I couldn’t leave my plate of food {I’m pregnant, remember!}.

HOPPY EASTER TO ALL!!

{yes…I’m hilarious}
